Our Training Programs
At Westchester K-9 we offer our clients three types of dog training
curriculum; Private Dog Training, Stay & Train Program and Group
Obedience Classes. Please see each of the descriptions below to help you
choose which is best suited for you and your dog(s). If you're unsure of
which route you should take in your dogs' education, please feel free to
drop us a line or give us a call and we will be glad to assist you with
your decision-making process.
A Westchester K-9 dog trainer will give you dog training lessons in the convenience
of your own home. Each session will last between 1–1½ hours. The
training is individualized for you and your dog.
Westchester K-9 houses your dog(s) for up to 3 weeks in our home for
all phases of our dog training curriculum (house training, in home behavior,
manners & all obedience commands). This program also includes 5
additional lessons in your home with a Professional Certified Dog Trainer for
you and your family members.
You come to us for a series of classes (usually 6 classes) with other
people and their dogs. Our group classes take place in Larchmont at:
Paws on Palmer
Larchmont, NY
New outdoor dog training classes will begin spring 2008 at The Bark Park
in White Plains.
Please call 914-393-2346 if you are interested.
These weekly lessons are considered a more structured program due to the
time allotted and the nature of a "group" environment.
Stay & Play
Tails are waggin' since we introduced this EXCLUSIVE offer to our
clients only! There is no better place for your dogs to stay when you
are away, than in our dog trainers home! This program is only available to
Westchester K-9 clients, since we know that our guests have been trained
properly and can handle the socialization aspect of being with other
dogs. It's also a big weight off of your shoulders to know that while
you're away, your dog(s) will be cared for properly and that their
training (that you have spent time and money on) will be enforced and
continued properly. Call us or
email us
for details and availability.

Private Dog Training Curriculum
Westchester K-9 offers a variety of Private Dog Training Programs.
However, like people, every dog has their own personality. In order to
insure you receive the best training for your dog, the first half of
your first dog training lesson is our evaluation process. During this
process, we test your dog's motivations and capabilities. The outcome of
this evaluation allows us to tailor a program to match your dog's potential
and to satisfy each owner's dog training requirements. We then decide which
programs we will use to achieve our goals for you and your dog(s).
Our Private Dog Training Curriculum is a wonderful program because not only
are we teaching your dog, we are doing so in their own environment with
you taking part in the process. And because it's on a one-to-one basis,
we can answer all of your questions — you have our complete
attention at all times! Pricing contingent upon program selection.
Our Private Training Programs Include:
Housebreaking
Consists of a single consultation with you and your dog to advise you on
the correct procedures for housebreaking your dog.
Puppy Kindergarten
A four (4) session program including housebreaking, socialization, and
beginner obedience training.
Basic Dog Obedience
Communication and education is essential for a well-trained dog. The
Basic Obedience Dog Training Program consists of verbal commands to create
this communication between you and your pet. Topics such as behavior
modification, problem prevention, in-home manners, and basic obedience
commands are the foundation of this program and includes such commands
as:
- SIT
- HEEL
- DROP
- COME
- STAY
- OFF
- DOWN
- NO
- RELEASE
Advanced Dog Obedience
By adding hand signals to the verbal commands, this program helps
develop a more focused connection and communication between dog and
owner. This also includes all of the basic obedience commands.
Protection
Prior to beginning Protection Training, all dogs must first complete the
Advanced Obedience training program. This program includes:
- AREA PROTECTION
- PERSONAL PROTECTION
- ATTACK ON COMMAND
Behavior Modification
Consultation and application of proper training techniques to modify
unwanted behaviors.
Stay & Train Curriculum
Our Stay & Train Dog Training Curriculum is our most popular. Our clients
love that they bring their dog(s)into our home for a 3 week period where we
place them on a schedule that has been carefully planned by a Westchester
K-9 dog trainer with your input. By placing your dog on a schedule, it is then
significantly easier for you to reinforce the curriculum that has
already been taught. This takes most of the pressure off you since the
majority of the training has been taken care of. All phases of training
(house training, in-home behaviors, manners and all obedience work) are
covered in this extensive and intense dog training curriculum. Please
understand any decent trainer can train your dog, the key to our program
is to teach you how to reinforce this training. That is why we include 5
owner lessons with our certified professional dog trainer
within the familiar surroundings of your home after our
initial training. At this point your dog will know what to do and now
it's your time to learn. Please call us for pricing.
